Couture Culture and Arts (CCA) honours the famous Filipino fabric Malong in this editorial while upholding its values to represent different cultures and artisans worldwide.
The look channelled the strength and beauty of the Philippines.
Malong, the skirt featured in the shoot, comes from the Southern Philippines, a part of the Meranaw tribes.
A large piece of cloth, tubular in nature, and measuring at least 165cm x 165cm, it has initially been hand-woven by Filipino women using a back-strap loom, though nowadays they are mostly machine-made like the ones enrobing the models. Customarily crafted with vibrant colours, Malongs are versatile garments for both men and women.
Dynamic jewelry native to Bukidnon in Southern Philippines, and symbolic war-paint like facial designs, reminiscent of warriors going into battle helped bring the strength and personality of Malong.
The look and feel of strategically wrapped Malong, well-worn artisan accessories, and the symbolic make-up will have you feeling like a warrior with style.
